A lot of Western holidays have become popular in Japan, but Easter hasn‘t carried over much, if at all. Like Christmas, it’s a Christian holiday, mixed with a lots of non-Christian events. As strange as decorating a tree in your house is, painting boiled eggs has to be equally strange. Growing up, I’d wake up to chocolate rabbits and chocolate eggs at my bedside, and just for that I enjoyed the holiday. These days, I paint eggs with my daughter every year, and she enjoys it a lot. Easter is an important holiday at the start of spring in the West, but because of Japan’s Hanami tradition at the same time of year, I don’t think it will ever really catch on here.
Happy Easter!
